While the nation is under lockdown, we all have been facing inconveniences because of the restriction in movement. There are lot of people with diabetes, who might be facing problem on dealing with their diabetic foot. Statistic says that 1 out of 10 patients suffers from foot ulcers, which develop out of a small blister, which can eventually lead to amputation of feet if not taken care of at the right time. Thus diabetes foot care is required to avoid such complications. Hence I thought to list down few do’s and don’ts on taking good care of your diabetic foot during the period of lockdown.

DO’S

  •  Do keep a check of your feet on a daily basis. Be mindful of any new cracks, sores, wound or any new injury that happens in your feet.
  •  Do wash your feet with mild soap at least twice a day and dry your feet properly after every washing
  •  Do choose a pair of supportive and comfortable shoes or boots, which gives enough space to your toe and provide covering from all sides
  •  Do exercise regularly and have a balanced diet with intake of vegetables and fruits daily
  •  For toenail, make sure to cut only when nails are soft. Also, while cutting do not cut the corners as this may lead to infection.
  •  Do daily moisturize your feet with medicinal lotion
  •  Do monitor your blood glucose and cholesterol levels on a regular basis, if you have access to a testing kit, and ensure that they are managed well.
  •  Do wear orthotics, if your foot specialist has advised you to wear them.
  •  Do feel free to schedule an appointment and meet your foot and ankle specialist, if there arises any emergency. CIMS hospital has been taking special precautions on keeping the premises sanitized amidst Covid19 crisis.
