Heel pain is a very common and often observed problem in the people of India. Plantar fasciitis is the foremost cause of heel pain, which typically occurs in the under side of the heel or just behind it.

Plantar fasciitis is basically an inflammation of the plantar fascia, a strong bowstring like ligament that runs from the tip of the toe to the heel bone (calcaneum). The pain typically occurs due to over stretching of the fascia near the heel bone.

Mostly conservatively treated in the form of night splints ,orthotics and physiotherapy. Rarely injections can also be used to treat this condition but very cautiously. If the pain and the fasciitis persist surgical intervention maybe required. Surgery can be done endoscopically or by open release of the fascia.
