All Trauma Related to Foot & Ankle

Trauma in this dau and age can be caused by RTA (road traffic accidents) ,fall ,sports and/or physical confrontation. Trauma to the foot can lead to blunt injuries to the extent of fractures.

The bones involved in the foot and ankle are lower end of tibia, fibula, talus, calcanuem, navicular, cuboid, cuneiform, metatarsals and phalanges.

Proper history and physical examination are the hallmark to any kind if trauma patients.Further investigations and confirmations of fracture can be done by xrays.Sometimes small fragments of the bone are displaced in a fracture and to know the pattern and geometry of the fractured parts a ct scan is needed.

Often there are ligament injuries associated with fractures for which MRI can be advised.

Treatment can range from rest, immobilization by slabs or cats or strapping to more extreme cases like surgical intervention and fixation with help of screws and plates.
